This new model is the result of a collaboration with Esteban Batallan, Principal Trumpet of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. We referenced 13,959 the 229 C owned by the Chicago Symphony and used by Adolph “Bud” Herseth and Esteban Batallan in the Chicago Symphony. We also referenced 13,960, owned by John Hagstrom, and 3 of my personal instruments 13,966, 13,968 and 7822.

This updated model is the result of a long partnership with Michael Sachs to make modern instruments that are better than the best Bach vintage instruments. This instrument was based on his personal 1979 144,XXX serial number Bach 229.

This model was based on my personal New York Bach 229 L C Trumpet 7822 that was owned and played by George Mager, then Tom Rolfs and then myself. It was also inspired by some of the New York era instruments used by the Pittsburgh Symphony. These instruments had heavier bells than the Mt. Vernon set from the Chicago Symphony as well as tighter venturis and no brace in the first slide.

This instrument was a from scratch project. We talked with Tine and told her we wanted to make a C trumpet with her and we had no idea what the final product would look like! We just wanted it to be whatever she needs. The result is a never before seen set up that works beautifully in all settings!
